Korean Skincare Routine: Steps, Order and Glass Skin Lettura Best Korean Skincare: How to Choose Products That Fit Your Skin 10 minuti

The best Korean skincare for you is the product that suits your skin type and fills a real gap in your routine, not the top of someone else's list. Start with three basics: a gentle cleanser, a moisturizer in a texture your skin likes and a daily sunscreen. Then add one targeted step, such as a hydrating serum, for the need you notice most: dryness, oiliness, sensitivity or visible signs of aging.

Is there a number one Korean skincare brand?

No. There is no official number one Korean skincare brand, in Korea or in the world, and no single number one product. Rankings come from one shop, one sales period or social media, and they change all the time. A cream one person loves can feel heavy or stinging on someone else. A more useful question is which brand makes the formula your skin needs.

Here are some brands in Keauty's range, with example products and what those examples offer:

What Korean skincare should you buy first?

Build from the basics, then add. A routine you repeat every day does more than a shelf of products you rarely use.

  1. Cleanser. Choose one that leaves skin clean but not tight. Round Lab 1025 Dokdo Cleanser 150ml is a low pH cleanser with deep sea water from Ulleungdo Island that you work into a lather and rinse off with lukewarm water; its ingredient list includes chamomile flower oil, so patch test it if your skin is reactive. On evenings when you wore sunscreen or makeup, start with an oil cleanser; our guide to double cleansing explains when it helps, and DermNet's page on soaps and cleansers gives background.
  2. Moisturizer. A gel cream for oily skin, a richer cream for dry skin. Our guide to face cream by skin type compares textures.
  3. Sunscreen. The last step every morning. Our Korean sunscreen guide helps you pick a texture and filter type.
  4. One targeted step. A toner, essence or serum for your main need. Add one at a time.

How do you choose Korean skincare for your skin type?

Match textures and ingredients to how your skin behaves on most days. Not sure of your type? Take our skin quiz.

Skin type Look for Go easy on
Dry Hydrating toner, hyaluronic acid serum, cream with ceramides Cleansers that leave skin tight, hot water
Oily or combination Gel and water-gel textures, an oil cleanser that rinses clean Heavy creams in summer, harsh scrubs
Sensitive Short routines, low pH cleansers, formulas without fragrance Several new products at once, fragrance and essential oils
Mature Daily sunscreen, a rich moisturizer, retinol or peptides added slowly Starting several actives at the same time

Dry skin

Torriden DIVE IN Low Molecular Hyaluronic Acid Serum 50ml is a light water gel with several forms of hyaluronic acid, panthenol and ceramide NP. Pat it in after toner, then seal it with a cream. Its ingredient list includes no fragrance.

Oily or combination skin

Light layers usually feel better than one heavy cream: for example, a water-gel serum such as the Torriden one above under a light gel cream. In the evening, an oil cleanser that turns milky with water lifts sunscreen and excess oil before your second cleanse. For skin that is also prone to breakouts, read our guide to skincare for oily and acne-prone skin.

Sensitive skin

Keep the routine short, add one product at a time and patch test. The SKIN1004 Madagascar Centella Travel Kit holds five mini sizes: an ampoule foam cleanser, a toning toner, an ampoule of 100% centella extract, a soothing cream and a light cleansing oil. That lets you test a whole routine before buying full sizes. The cleansing oil contains bergamot, geranium and rose oils, and the cream contains peppermint leaf extract, so patch test each one first.

Which Korean skincare suits aging skin?

For visible signs of aging, daily sunscreen and a moisturizer come first; then add one targeted serum. Sulwhasoo Concentrated Ginseng Renewing Serum EX 50ml combines ginseng saponins with niacinamide, peptides and retinol, and the brand says it helps visibly improve wrinkles. Sulwhasoo advises using it morning and night after toner. Its ingredient list includes fragrance, so patch test it first if your skin is sensitive. For the eye area, Sulwhasoo Concentrated Ginseng Rejuvenating Eye Cream 15ml pairs ginseng with retinol and comes with a cooling applicator tip.

As both contain retinol, introduce them slowly and wear sunscreen every morning. The American Academy of Dermatology has a guide on how to select anti-aging skin care products, listed in the sources below, and our guide to skincare for mature skin goes further.

Is Korean skincare really better?

Not by default. A product is not better just because it is made in Korea, and no routine suits everyone. What sets Korean skincare apart is mostly its approach:

  • Layers of hydration. Toners, essences and water-gel serums add moisture without heaviness, which helps when indoor heating dries the air.
  • Gentle cleansing. Low pH cleansers and double cleansing aim to remove sunscreen and makeup without leaving skin tight.
  • Signature ingredients. Ginseng in Sulwhasoo's range, centella in SKIN1004's Madagascar Centella products and snail mucus filtrate in the TONYMOLY gold set are typical examples. Our guide to snail mucin, centella and PDRN explains them.
  • Small sizes and kits. Travel kits and sets make it easier to try a routine before committing to full sizes.

The drawbacks are real too. Long routines can tempt you to buy more than you need, and stacking several new products makes it hard to tell what irritates your skin.

What matters more than the brand?

Korean skincare covers a huge range of very different products, so judge each formula on its own rather than the label as a whole. What matters is whether a given formula suits your skin. The basics hold whatever the brand: cleanse gently, moisturize, wear sunscreen, patch test new products and add them one at a time. If you have a skin condition or a reaction that does not settle, ask a doctor or pharmacist before building a routine around new products.

Do you need a 10-step routine?

No. The 10-step routine is a menu, not a rule. A routine can be one step on a tired evening and three on another day; consistency should serve comfort, not a product count. Use the fewest products that meet your skin's needs, keep them where you use them, set a realistic budget and stop any product that keeps stinging, burning or causing a rash. Our Korean skincare routine guide shows the full order of steps, morning and evening.

The World Health Organization describes self-care broadly, as the things people do to promote and maintain their health. Skincare can be one small ritual in that picture, but it does not replace medical or mental health care.

How should you choose skincare for a Nordic climate?

Cold air outside and indoor heating can leave skin, lips and hands feeling dry in winter. Use lukewarm water, switch to a richer cream at night and exfoliate less often. Remember the body too: Illiyoon Ceramide Ato Concentrate Cream 230ml is a ceramide cream for dry and sensitive skin that you apply to the body after a shower, and its ingredient list includes no fragrance. For lips, Torriden Solid In Ceramide Lip Essence 11ml combines ceramides with jojoba oil and can be applied generously as a lip pack.

The sun sits low in the darkest months, but winter is not UV-free, so keep sunscreen as a morning habit and make it a fixed daily step from spring. Our guide to body, hand and lip care for dry skin has more winter tips.

FAQ

Is Korean skincare good for sensitive skin?

It can be, if you choose carefully. Pick short routines, low pH cleansers and formulas without fragrance or essential oils, read the full ingredient list and patch test each new product. A Korean label alone does not make a product gentle.

Where can I buy snail mucin skincare?

Keauty sells Korean products with snail mucin, which labels may call snail mucus filtrate or snail secretion filtrate. One example is TONYMOLY Intense Care Gold 24K Snail Skincare Set of 3, a toner, emulsion and cream with snail mucus filtrate and gold. All three products list citrus and eucalyptus oils, so patch test them if your skin reacts easily.

Can men use the same Korean skincare?

Yes. Skin type matters more than gender, and the steps are the same: cleanse, moisturize, protect and add one targeted product. On freshly shaved skin, light textures without fragrance can feel more comfortable.

Are skincare kits a good way to start?

They can be. Travel kits let you try several steps in small sizes before buying full sizes, and they are handy for trips. Check that each product in the kit suits your skin type before you buy.

How soon can I tell if a product suits me?

Stinging, tightness or a heavy feel usually show within days. Visible changes in texture or glow take longer, so give a product a few weeks before you judge it, and add only one new product at a time.

Keauty sells some of the products mentioned here.
